Volunteer Opportunity: Journalism & News Contributor

Location: Remote (Flexible Hours)
Language Requirement: Proficiency in either French or English or both.
Duration:  The commitment is flexible for at least three months and may be extended based on need and funding. The volunteers are expected to dedicate approximately five to ten hours each week.  

About Bantu Gazette

Bantu Gazette is a pioneering news platform dedicated to showcasing Africa’s development, culture, and heritage. We provide insightful reporting that amplifies African voices, highlights historical narratives, and promotes informed discussions about the continent’s future. We are seeking passionate volunteers or interns to join our editorial team. If you are interested in journalism, African culture, and storytelling, this is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the media industry while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Key Responsibilities

1. 1) News Gathering & Reporting

Conduct comprehensive research on topics related to Africa’s culture, development, socio-political landscape, heritage, and socio-economic progress, among others.

Identify and pitch newsworthy stories aligned with Bantu Gazette’s editorial mission.

Interview subject-matter experts, cultural figures, and policymakers to enrich articles with credible insights.

2. 2) Content Creation & Writing

Write well-researched and engaging articles, features, and opinion pieces in either French or English.

Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to Bantu Gazette’s editorial guidelines.

Develop compelling narratives that educate and inspire readers.

3. 3) Media Engagement & Digital Presence

Assist in curating and managing content for Bantu Gazette’s website and social media platforms.

Collaborate with editors and fellow contributors to enhance audience engagement.

Support multimedia storytelling through visuals, videos, and interactive content when necessary.

4. 4) Fact-Checking & Ethical Journalism

Verify sources and ensure all published content meets high journalistic standards.

Uphold ethical reporting practices, particularly when covering sensitive or controversial topics.

Maintain editorial integrity by avoiding misinformation and bias.

Requirements Qualifications

Passion for journalism, Africa, and storytelling.

Strong writing and communication skills in either French or English.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Background in journalism, media, communication, or a related field (preferred but not required).

Familiarity with digital media tools and social media platforms is a plus.
