Senegal and Rwanda reaffirmed their commitment to a united and self-reliant Africa during President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s state visit to Kigali, with both leaders emphasizing youth empowerment, inclusive development, and accountable governance as shared priorities.
“President Faye and I share a deep concern for Africa’s future, particularly the vital role of its youth. Their talents and resilience are undeniable,” said Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
“Our responsibility is to ensure they have a stable, fair, and innovative environment that enables them to meet their full potential,” he added
President Faye arrived in Kigali on October 17 for a three-day visit. During his stay, he met with President Kagame, toured the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and received a briefing on IREMBO, Rwanda’s public service digitization platform.
The visit also saw the signing of five cooperation agreements, covering:
- Visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports;
- Cooperation in planning and monitoring development programs;
- Partnership in the field of agriculture;
- Partnership in the field of health;
- Collaboration in correctional services and penitentiary matters.
Kagame underlined the broader alignment between the two nations. “Rwanda and Senegal are guided by the same values: putting people first, delivering results, and pursuing a bold, transformative vision,” he said.
“We also share the vision of a self-reliant, united continent, guided by accountable governance and inclusive development,” Kagame added.
The visit is part of a growing wave of intra-African collaboration focused on strategic partnerships, innovation, and homegrown solutions to the continent’s challenges.
