KINSHASA
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has launched an agricultural recovery program in South Ubangi province that will support 2,000 farmers as part of a broader effort to increase food production, improve rural infrastructure and strengthen food security, the Ministry of National Economy said.
The South Ubangi Agricultural Recovery Program, known by its French acronym PRASUB, was officially launched by the government through the Ministry of National Economy and the FOREC fund in partnership with development organization CDI-Bwamanda.
According to the ministry, the program will provide technical and material support to 2,000 agricultural producers, strengthen farmers’ organizations, rehabilitate 290 kilometers of farm-to-market roads, construct storage and processing facilities, and distribute agricultural inputs and equipment.
The government said the initiative is designed to boost agricultural production, improve food security, support local producers and contribute to the economic development of South Ubangi province, which borders the Central African Republic.
The launch follows commitments made after Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Daniel Mukoko Samba visited the provinces of South Ubangi and Mongala in October 2025 to assess obstacles to agricultural development.
In a statement on Friday, June 3, the ministry said the mission identified key constraints facing producers and outlined measures to unlock the agricultural potential of the two provinces.
It added that PRASUB is part of the government’s broader strategy to revive domestic agricultural production and advance food sovereignty by turning field assessments into concrete development projects.
