Ethiopia’s recently introduced electronic passport has won the 2025 Red Dot Award for Brands and Communication Design, according to Selamawit Dawit, director general of Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS).
“This achievement reflects the efforts of the entire team at ICS. I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of ICS,” Selamawit said.
“This recognition will serve as a testament of the significant transformation we have initiated in our services and will motivate us to keep working diligently,” she added.
Ethiopia launched its first e-passport in February 2025. The initiative, led by Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS), Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), and Toppan Security Ethiopia S.C., marked a major step in modernizing the nation’s travel documentation system.
In addition to the e-passport, ICS rolled out updated passport issuance systems to streamline application processes and improve service delivery for Ethiopian citizens.
The award-winning passport and the accompanying system upgrades represent progress in enhancing Ethiopia’s immigration infrastructure, strengthening national security, and delivering a more seamless and secure travel experience.
The Red Dot Award, presented by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, is one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
It honors high-quality design and innovation across multiple disciplines, including communication, product, and brand design.
