Thousands of supporters gathered in Rabat on Sunday as the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 opened with the host nation’s Group A match against Comoros.

Many fans wore Morocco’s red and green colors, joined by visitors and neutrals marking the start of the tournament.

Fan parks offered juggling competitions, penalty shootouts, timed dribbling courses and quizzes covering AFCON history and players.

Entertainment and pre-match programming built anticipation ahead of kickoff. For 13:30 matches, fan parks open at 11:00; for 17:00 matches, they open at 12:00.

The initiative is part of a broader public engagement effort, with official fan zones to operate in eight cities throughout the tournament. The full list includes:

  • Rabat: Esplanade OLM Souissi; Sale Bab El Mrissa
  • Casablanca: Espace Toro; Espace Météo
  • Agadir: Agadir Beach (La Marina)
  • Fes: Jardin Botanique
  • Marrakech: Bab Jdid
  • Tangier: Villa Harris Park

At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco opened its campaign with a 2–0 victory over Comoros in front of a capacity crowd.

Second-half goals from Brahim Díaz and Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the result after a tense first half that included a missed penalty and the injury-forced substitution of captain Romain Saïss.

“We have been preparing for this game for a year and a half,” Morocco coach Walid Regragui said. “At half-time, I wasn’t very satisfied with the team, and we spoke to put certain adjustments in place, which the players applied very quickly.”

Comoros coach Stefano Cusin said his team competed well but lacked finishing. “We were solid defensively. But in this kind of game, when opportunity knocks, you have to take it. The team showed a good face, and Comorians can be proud of their country. We can’t say we played badly because we conceded two goals.”
