KIGALI, Rwanda (BG) – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Africa, in partnership with the Timbuktoo Africa Innovation Foundation, has announced the 15 groundbreaking startups that have advanced to the acceleration phase of the Timbuktoo HealthTech Hub.
These high-potential startups will each receive $25,000 in funding to scale innovative healthcare solutions across the continent.
An additional five pre-MVP (minimum viable product) startups will receive $5,000 each to support product development.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, underlines the commitment to fostering transformative healthcare solutions in Africa.
This milestone follows the HealthTech Hub’s inaugural programme, launched in November 2024, which kicked off with a bootcamp for 40 pan-African innovators.
Designed to identify and nurture the most promising startups, the boot camp culminated in the selection of 15 high-growth companies to advance to the acceleration phase.
The selected startups will undergo a six-month acceleration process starting in January this year.
They will receive extensive mentorship, expert guidance, funding and access to advanced resources to help them scale their operations and address critical healthcare challenges across Africa.
These innovations span areas such as telemedicine, healthcare logistics, diagnostics and mobile health, all aimed at creating sustainable and inclusive healthcare solutions.

Launched during the YouthConnekt Africa 2024 Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, the Timbuktu HealthTech Hub is a cornerstone of the broader Timbuktu Initiative.
The initiative aims to mobilise $1 billion in catalytic and commercial capital over the next decade to fuel Africa’s startup revolution across multiple sectors, including health tech, mining tech, agri-tech and fintech.
The programme aims to empower Africa’s young innovators and entrepreneurs to lead global advances in technology and development.
Through mentorship, funding and strategic partnerships, the Timbuktu HealthTech Hub is positioning Africa at the forefront of global health innovation, fostering solutions that have the potential to make a significant and lasting impact both on the continent and globally.
