DAKAR, Senegal (BG) — President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling Senegal’s education system during the Grand Prix of the Head of State for the Teacher on Thursday, emphasizing the role of educators in shaping the nation’s future.

Speaking at the event, Faye highlighted the government’s dedication to creating a “true educational society” that integrates Senegal’s cultural identity while equipping students for a rapidly evolving global landscape.

“This means creating an educational society in which all components recognize themselves and contribute to the formation of a Senegalese rooted in its strong, endogenous, and African civilizational values, while being able to meet the challenges of the present and future of a continually and rapidly changing humanity,” he said.

As part of Vision Senegal 2050, the government aims to modernize teaching, incorporate national languages, introduce early English instruction, and integrate technology and artificial intelligence into education.

The West African country seeks to instil values of integrity, civic responsibility, and excellence in future generations by elevating the teaching profession and adapting curricula to contemporary challenges.

Faye called on educators, policymakers and parents to take an active role in this transformation.

“Who better than you, who bear the heavy responsibility of shaping the civic consciousness of tomorrow, can instill in future generations the principles of integrity, honesty, and exemplary behavior, the foundation of a stronger, fairer, and more united Senegal?” he said.
