ASMARA, Eritrea (BG) — Eritrean officials are emphasizing the crucial role of educated and skilled women in shaping the nation’s future, highlighting female participation in leadership and national development, according to a media release from the Ministry of Information on Friday.

The statement came as the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) organized a two-day training session for female representatives of higher education institutions. The program aimed to strengthen leadership skills and youth organization among female students.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael, president of NUEW, underscored the importance of empowering young women through education and skill development. She urged female students to build confidence and take an active role in national initiatives.

Ms. Aberash Habtai, head of NUEW’s higher education branch, said the training covered administration and leadership, moral values, youth organization, and the advantages and challenges of collective work. She noted that the program was designed to enhance the capacity of female representatives and encourage their engagement in national affairs.

Participants praised the training’s impact, saying it improved their understanding of key issues and motivated them to contribute to national development programs.

Eritrea continues to promote female education as a cornerstone of its development strategy, recognizing that empowering women in higher education leads to stronger leadership and greater contributions to the country’s future.
