Ethiopia on Thursday laid the foundation stone for two major industrial projects: a urea fertilizer plant and the Gode Oil Refinery.

The fertilizer plant will be developed by Ethiopian Investment Holdings in partnership with the Dangote Group, while Golden Concord Group Limited (GCL) will construct the oil refinery.

The Gode Oil Refinery will have an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tons, using crude oil and condensate from the Hilala oil field, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The fertilizer plant is expected to produce 3 million tons annually and will rely on natural gas from the Calub fields, transported through a 108-kilometer pipeline.

Abiy described the projects as part of Ethiopia’s efforts to “harness opportunities, strengthen cooperation, and promote peace.”

Abiy also urged Ethiopians to mobilize in unity for development.

“By doing so, we elevate Ethiopia’s presence on the global stage in a way that honors the true spirit of our Ethiopian identity,” he said.
