MONROVIA, Liberia (BG) — The Republic of Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco have signed 15 landmark agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.
This announcement was made in a statement released by Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.
The agreements were signed by Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, during a ceremony held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025.
The event also featured the issuance of a Joint Communiqué, which outlined a shared vision for mutual development and deeper collaboration.
During the signing ceremony, Minister Nyanti expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his significant role in strengthening Liberia-Morocco relations.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The statement highlighted that the agreements would bolster cooperation in critical areas, including technical assistance, healthcare system improvements, agriculture and agribusiness, human resource development, and promoting good governance.
These initiatives address key development challenges while fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
The countries also announced plans to establish a partnership between the Port of Monrovia and Morocco’s Tangiers Port, which was emphasized as part of efforts to boost trade and economic integration.
Enhanced technical support across various fields was highlighted as another priority area.
Nyanti noted that Morocco’s commitment to providing scholarships and vocational training opportunities for Liberian students is a critical foundation for sustainable development in Liberia.
She praised Morocco’s consistent support, particularly in facilitating the Third Joint Commission, which has been instrumental in advancing the partnership.
For his part, Bourita commended the alignment of Liberia’s and Morocco’s developmental goals.
He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to fostering innovative partnerships and sustainable investments that could drive economic growth in Liberia and the broader Mano River Union region.
A Growing Partnership
In a significant gesture of solidarity, Bourita also pledged Morocco’s support for Liberia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
Both ministers emphasized their nations’ shared dedication to promoting peace, economic growth, and sustainable development.
The reopening of Morocco’s embassy in Monrovia in 2024 was a key symbol of the deepening relationship between the two nations.
The 15 signed agreements reaffirm Liberia and Morocco’s strong and enduring bonds, paving the way for a future defined by shared goals and innovative strategies for mutual prosperity.
This historic event represents another milestone in the bilateral partnership and underscores the determination of both nations to work collaboratively for the benefit of their people.
