Dakar’s streets erupted in jubilation Tuesday as Senegal’s national soccer team, the Lions of Teranga, paraded their newly won African Cup of Nations trophy before a huge crowd of supporters.
The champions, fresh from their 1-0 victory over Morocco in Sunday’s final, rode an open-top bus across the capital city, holding the gleaming trophy aloft.
Fans waved national flags, sang and beat drums, transforming the capital into a carnival of color and sound.
Traffic was halted along major routes as families, fans, vendors and musicians crowded the procession.
Children perched on shoulders, while stalls sold jerseys and flags in the national colors.
Security forces lined the streets to manage the swelling crowds and ensure order as the celebration unfolded.
For many, the parade was a moment of unity, pride and affirmation that the Lions of Teranga embody the spirit of the nation.
