The Senegal National Police took a step toward strengthening gender inclusion within the country’s security institutions following a meeting of female officers this week.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts under the ELSIE framework to increase the active and inclusive participation of women in U.N. peacekeeping operations.

During a meeting held Tuesday at the Directorate of Training in Dakar, female officers convened for the first gathering of the Women’s Network of the National Police, a platform intended to promote dialogue, mentorship and career support.

Participants identified priority actions, including improving access to information on peacekeeping missions, advancing implementation of the police gender policy and ensuring the sustainability of the newly created network.

The session also featured experience-sharing between pioneering female officers and those who have served in the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting the contribution of Senegalese policewomen to international operations.

The police said the initiative reflects its commitment to building a more inclusive and representative security institution.
