Morocco has earned widespread praise for its organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, drawing commendation from players, officials, media, governments and football fans across the continent and beyond.
The tournament, which kicked off Dec. 21, 2025, and concluded Jan. 18, 2026, has been widely regarded as one of the most successful editions in the history of African football.
Senegal claimed the title with a 1-0 win over Morocco in the final on Sunday.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe said the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco “is the most successful edition in African football history.”
Rwandan President Paul Kagame praised Morocco for both its performance on the field and its role as host, saying the country delivered “a well-organized tournament” and extended “warm hospitality that reflects the best of our continent.”
FIFA President Giovanni Infantino also extended his congratulations. “Well done to Morocco on a fantastic tournament, both as runners-up and exceptional hosts.”
“My sincere thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his constant support of football, and to Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and FIFA Council member, for his leadership and commitment to the game,” he added.
French President Emmanuel Macron also weighed in, congratulating Senegal on its victory and applauding Morocco’s role as host.
He highlighted “the passion for football, the fervor and Moroccan hospitality,” and offered his “congratulations to Morocco for such a well-organized AFCON.”
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, described the 2025 AFCON as a model for future continental tournaments. “The atmosphere across host cities has set a new benchmark for our continent,” he wrote in a letter.

In a letter to FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, Egyptian officials praised Morocco’s world-class organization, infrastructure and logistics, calling the kingdom a model for sports organization in Africa.
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) also expressed gratitude for the hospitality and support provided by Moroccan authorities during the tournament.
Morocco’s hosting has also translated into commercial success. The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 saw a more than 90 percent increase in competition revenues and secured 23 sponsors, according to tournament organizers.
Media highlight Morocco’s AFCON success

During a sports program on Italy’s SportItalia, analysts expressed surprise at the readiness of stadiums and surrounding facilities. They highlighted Morocco’s professionalism in tournament organization.
On the logistical front, the integration of Al Boraq, Morocco’s high-speed train service, was praised for enhancing travel efficiency. The service allowed national teams, referees, media and spectators to move between host cities in just over an hour, significantly reducing travel times.
“Onboard the modern Al Boraq high-speed train as I relax and marvel at stunning views on my way from Rabat through Kenitra to Tangier… This four and a half hours by road only takes 1 hour and 15 minutes in a very comfortable train,” Kenyan football journalist Collins Okinyo shared on social media.

National teams were hosted in high-standard hotels that met CAF requirements, contributing to the positive experience for players and staff.
Next, the country will host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
Morocco, set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, is using the tournament to demonstrate its readiness for major global events. Its modern infrastructure and sustainable planning have drawn widespread attention.
