KIGALI, Rwanda (BG) – Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) has dismissed 411 officers following accusations of corruption and misconduct, the organization announced on November 11.

Rwanda’s New Times reported that those dismissed include one commissioner, 26 senior officers, 20 junior officers, and 364 prison warders.

The Rwandan Cabinet’s decision on November 9 reflects the RCS’s commitment to maintaining integrity within its ranks. According to the RCS, these actions align with its standards of acceptable practices and aim to uphold accountability in the correctional service.

The RCS did not detail the specific incidents but emphasized that the dismissals were necessary to ensure the correctional service operates without corruption or unethical behavior. This large-scale dismissal underscores Rwanda’s stringent stance on upholding ethical standards in public institutions
