ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the BisonFly Project, a strategic initiative designed to reduce air travel costs across federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

Unveiled by Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, the project seeks to streamline official travel through a centralized, technology-driven booking system.

The platform will integrate digital tools, enabling federal entities to secure discounted rates and improve transparency and efficiency in government travel.

“Project BisonFly directly supports our commitment to prudent financial management,” Edun said during the inauguration of the project team in Abuja on Thursday.

“By coordinating travel and securing discounted rates, we are using the government’s collective bargaining power to cut expenditure and improve service delivery, just as global institutions like the World Bank have done successfully,” he added.

Developed by the Ministry of Finance’s Efficiency Unit in collaboration with ICT advisers and stakeholders, the project will be overseen by a dedicated implementation team to ensure a timely rollout and measurable results.

It is expected to go live in the coming months.

Raymond Omenka Omachi, Permanent Secretary for Special Duties in the Ministry, praised the project as a model for fiscal responsibility in the public service.

The BisonFly Project supports broader goals of public sector reform, aligning with the government’s push for efficiency and accountability.

Officials say the initiative marks a significant step toward institutional reform and long-term cost savings in government operations.
